Later Years

Edna Guy married Walter McCully on May 21, 1939, and later moved with him to Enfield, New Hampshire. By this time she had given up her dance career, in part due to the Great Depression. She suffered a series of heart attacks in the mid-1940s. By the 1960s she was again living in New York, in the city of Hudson. Edna Guy died in 1982 in Fort Wayne, Texas, where she had been living for the previous eight years.

Famous quotes containing the word years:

Not so many years ago there there was no simpler or more intelligible notion than that of going on a journey. Travel—movement through space—provided the universal metaphor for change.... One of the subtle confusions—perhaps one of the secret terrors—of modern life is that we have lost this refuge. No longer do we move through space as we once did.
    Daniel J. Boorstin (b. 1914)

After years of vain familiarity, some distant gesture or unconscious behavior, which we remember, speaks to us with more emphasis than the wisest or kindest words. We are sometimes made aware of a kindness long passed, and realize that there have been times when our Friends’ thoughts of us were of so pure and lofty a character that they passed over us like the winds of heaven unnoticed; when they treated us not as what we were, but as what we aspired to be.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
