Edison State College - History

History

The college, previously known as Edison Junior College, Edison Community College and Edison College, admitted its first students in the fall of 1962. In 2011, the Edison experienced turmoil as faculty voted no confidence in its president and senior vice president; a few weeks later, President Kenneth Walker announced his impending resignation planned for 2013 while at the same time the Board of Trustees announced plans to reinstate a former vice president for academic affairs who had "raised allegations of racial discrimination in the hiring of a dean." Just over a year later in June 2012, the college's regional accreditor placed the institution on probation in the wake of continuing problems.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

Boys forget what their country means by just reading “the land of the free” in history books. Then they get to be men, they forget even more. Liberty’s too precious a thing to be buried in books.
    Sidney Buchman (1902–1975)

The history of all previous societies has been the history of class struggles.
    Karl Marx (1818–1883)

Every generation rewrites the past. In easy times history is more or less of an ornamental art, but in times of danger we are driven to the written record by a pressing need to find answers to the riddles of today.... In times of change and danger when there is a quicksand of fear under men’s reasoning, a sense of continuity with generations gone before can stretch like a lifeline across the scary present and get us past that idiot delusion of the exceptional Now that blocks good thinking.
    John Dos Passos (1896–1970)
