High School and Collegiate Football

McCaffrey played high school football at Allentown Central Catholic High School in Allentown, Pennsylvania, where he competed in the East Penn Conference (now known as the Lehigh Valley Conference) in Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley.

He then played college football at Stanford University in Stanford, California and, in 1991, was named an All-American. At Stanford, he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
