The town is served by Eastbourne District General Hospital, part of East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. An earlier hospital, St Mary's, opened on Vicarage Road in 1877 as the infirmary to the local workhouse; it was demolished in 1990. Eastbourne Fire Station is in Whitley Road, and the town's police station is in Grove Road. Eastbourne has a RNLI lifeboat station. A new boat, named 'Diamond Jubilee' was launched in 2012 by the Earl and Countess of Wessex.
