East Hartford High School - History

History

East Hartford High School has undergone many changes since its beginnings in 1886, and from 1962 until 1985 was one of two high schools in East Hartford, with the other being George J. Penney High School (the two schools merged in 1985). While now located on Forbes Street in East Hartford in the former Penney High School building, East Hartford High School was once located on Burnside Avenue, at what is now the home of East Hartford Middle School. East Hartford High School's school colors were once blue and white, but took on Penney High School's black and gold colors after the merger. Their mascot is the hornet, and their rival is Manchester High School.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

A man will not need to study history to find out what is best for his own culture.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

I assure you that in our next class we will concern ourselves solely with the history of Egypt, and not with the more lurid and non-curricular subject of living mummies.
Griffin Jay, and Reginald LeBorg. Prof. Norman (Frank Reicher)

He wrote in prison, not a History of the World, like Raleigh, but an American book which I think will live longer than that. I do not know of such words, uttered under such circumstances, and so copiously withal, in Roman or English or any history.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
