Earl Wesley Berry - Early Life

Early Life

Based on court testimony, Berry was a disturbed suicidal young man who reportedly attempted to swallow a razor blade at one time, and who had spent time in mental institutions for paranoid schizophrenia. Also based on court testimony was the fact that his IQ was estimated to be well below average. All of these facts, though, were brought up by the parties who wanted to keep him alive, or at least delay his imminent death, so they can not be taken as entirely true. In the community and surrounding areas, there is much cynical speculation against Berry's claims.

Famous quotes containing the words early and/or life:

Even today . . . experts, usually male, tell women how to be mothers and warn them that they should not have children if they have any intention of leaving their side in their early years. . . . Children don’t need parents’ full-time attendance or attention at any stage of their development. Many people will help take care of their needs, depending on who their parents are and how they chose to fulfill their roles.
    Stella Chess (20th century)

In the two centuries that have passed since 1776, millions upon millions of Americans have worked and taken up arms, when necessary, to make [the American] dream a reality. We can be proud of what they have accomplished. Today, we are the world’s oldest republic. We are at peace. Our nation and our way of life endure. And we are free.
    Gerald R. Ford (b. 1913)
