Earl Smith (1950s Outfielder)
Earl Calvin Smith was a Major League Baseball outfielder who played for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1955, who signed him before the 1949 season. He was born on March 14, 1928 in Sunnyside, Washington and attended Fresno State University. He threw and batted right-handed, weighed 185 pounds and was 6'0" in height.
On April 14, 1955, at the 27 years old, Smith made his big league debut. He played in 5 games, and collected only one hit in sixteen at bats, for a batting average of .062. One good thing to note about his statistics is he only struck out twice in those sixteen at-bats, and he walked four times. In the field, he made no errors, for a perfect fielding percentage. Smith played the 1954 season with Phoenix of the Class C of the Arizona-Texas league where he batted .384 with 32 home runs and 195 RBIs.
Smith played his final game April 29, 1955. He currently resides in Fresno, California.

“If a Sovereign should, by great accident, deviate into moderation, justice, and clemency, what a contemptible figure would he make in the catalogue of Princes!”
—Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl Chesterfield (16941773)
“For men tied fast to the absolute, bled of their differences, drained of their dreams by authoritarian leeches until nothing but pulp is left, become a massive, sick Thing whose sheer weight is used ruthlessly by ambitious men. Here is the real enemy of the people: our own selves dehumanized into the masses. And where is the David who can slay this giant?”
—Lillian Smith (18971966)
