E. J. Russell Elementary School

Edward J. Russell Elementary School is one of four elementary schools operated by the Pine Bush Central School District in the hamlet of Pine Bush, New York. It is located on Holland Avenue.

Although it is located in Orange County, like all the other Pine Bush schools it serves students from the entire, very large district, which includes portions of neighboring Sullivan and Ulster counties as well as all the Town of Crawford, the Circleville area of the Town of Wallkill and some parts of other neighboring towns. It educates students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. Student teams from the school have competed in the international Odyssey of the Mind championships, along with teams from Pine Bush Elementary School.

In 2003, a minor controversy erupted at the school when boys reported seeing a video camera in one bathroom. It was a fake, without tape, placed there to deter ongoing vandalism in the restroom. School district officials quickly removed the camera and apologized for the incident.

Famous quotes containing the words russell, elementary and/or school:

    “There is Hawthorne, with genius so shrinking and rare
    That you hardly at first see the strength that is there;
    A frame so robust, with a nature so sweet,
    So earnest, so graceful, so lithe and so fleet,
    Is worth a descent from Olympus to meet;
    —James Russell Lowell (1819–1891)

    As if paralyzed by the national fear of ideas, the democratic distrust of whatever strikes beneath the prevailing platitudes, it evades all resolute and honest dealing with what, after all, must be every healthy literature’s elementary materials.
    —H.L. (Henry Lewis)

    You send a boy to school in order to make friends—the right sort.
    Virginia Woolf (1882–1941)
