History of The Lordship and Manor of Worlton Dyffryn

The Manor of Worlton (or Worelton) has existed since 640 AD when it was passed to His Lordship The Bishop of Llandaff, who in 1913 transferred the ownership of the Lordship and Manor (also known the Manor of Dyffryn St Nicholas) to the University of Wales.

In June 2000 the University, on behalf of the Bishop, sold the ancient manorial Lordship of the Manor at auction. It was bought by local land owner Sean Thomas Arthur Rafferty, who thus became Lord of Dyffryn, Worlton and St. Nicholas.

Famous quotes containing the words history and/or lordship:

To history therefore I must refer for answer, in which it would be an unhappy passage indeed, which should shew by what fatal indulgence of subordinate views and passions, a contest for an atom had defeated well founded prospects of giving liberty to half the globe.
    Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826)

His lordship may compel us to be equal upstairs, but there will never be equality in the servants’ hall.
    —J.M. (James Matthew)
