According to an interview he gave to Gabby Logan on BBC Radio 5 Live on 28 July 2007, he is a great-grandson of Herbert Chapman, the manager of the Arsenal football team of the 1930s. James lives in Hatfield, Hertfordshire. He has a daughter named Tianie Finn with former girlfriend Claire Grainger. James came out as bisexual in an interview with the News of the World on 12 July 2009.
