Duncan Falconer - Military Career

Military Career

Falconer joined the British Royal Marines at the age of 18. At 19 years of age, he attended SBS selection in Poole Dorset and was one of nine Marines to successfully complete the course out of 147 men. Exceptionally he had been allowed to undergo selection without being required to build experience in a Commando although later in his career he was posted to 42 Commando as a career broadening opportunity.

Falconer served the majority of his career with the SBS. He served a year with the SAS in Northern ireland. He also underwent selection to 14 Intelligence Company and served in that role in Northern Ireland for two and a half years. After he left the Det he took a year as a civilian before returning to the SBS. After returning to SBS he was posted to MAT (Maritime Anti terrorism) operations in which he was involved in a number of exercises retaking oil rigs and tankers.

Famous quotes containing the words military and/or career:

In early times every sort of advantage tends to become a military advantage; such is the best way, then, to keep it alive. But the Jewish advantage never did so; beginning in religion, contrary to a thousand analogies, it remained religious. For that we care for them; from that have issued endless consequences.
    Walter Bagehot (1826–1877)

“Never hug and kiss your children! Mother love may make your children’s infancy unhappy and prevent them from pursuing a career or getting married!” That’s total hogwash, of course. But it shows on extreme example of what state-of-the-art “scientific” parenting was supposed to be in early twentieth-century America. After all, that was the heyday of efficiency experts, time-and-motion studies, and the like.
    Lawrence Kutner (20th century)
