Du Hast - Music Video

Music Video

The video begins with Christoph Schneider and actress Astrid Meyerfeldt arriving in a Volga GAZ-21 car near a desolate nondescript small warehouse in the countryside. The couple share what seems to be a 'last embrace' but we see a glimmer of a lie in Meyerfeldt's eye. Presumably Meyerfeldt's character is having an affair with another man; as emphasised by the song's lyrical suggestion which plays on the German pronunciation of the words love and hate. Schneider reaches into the backseat to get a bag and takes out a handgun, tucking it into the back of his trousers as he walks into the building to perform what we initially perceive to be some sort of last duty.

Inside, a group of men are wearing Cupid masks, cut off below the nose awaiting Schneider. They take off their masks and Schneider is relieved to see it is his friends (band members). They start drinking, but the mood takes a turn as an unseen character (represented initially by the camera) enters the mix to be beaten down by the band. A shot showing a syringe being administered to this character seems to be the reason for slurred views of the band's faces, all emphasizing the song chorus, to the character presumed to be lying on the ground. A match is lit, lighting up a gasoline trail and the standing human figure (now seen) is engulfed by flames. The camera focuses on one of the band members and quickly slides to a complete darkness. Presumably, this character who is killed, is the man with whom Meyerfeldt was having an affair.

The camera changes to outside, where Meyerfeldt awaits by the car. Her hands can be seen retracting as she uncovers her eyes and she begins to realise what has happened. The entire band then walks outside, including Schneider, unscathed as seen by Meyerfeldt. Schneider glances at Meyerfeldt in disgust, checks his watch as the car and then the warehouse explodes to kill her. The band continues to walk in a line, unfazed by the explosion and not looking back.

Famous quotes containing the words music and/or video:

It was a poetic recreation to watch those distant sails steering for half-fabulous ports, whose very names are a mysterious music to our ears.... It is remarkable that men do not sail the sea with more expectation. Nothing was ever accomplished in a prosaic mood.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

I recently learned something quite interesting about video games. Many young people have developed incredible hand, eye, and brain coordination in playing these games. The air force believes these kids will be our outstanding pilots should they fly our jets.
    Ronald Reagan (b. 1911)
