Cannabis in Health Care

Treatment with drugs that are extracts or synthetic variants of cannabis are not legal to use in health care with one exception. Nabiximols, trade name Sativex, a cannabinoid oromucosal mouth spray, was approved in December 2011 for multiple sclerosis (MS); only on prescription as a third alternative to two other approved drugs for that condition. About 13 000 persons in Sweden have the diagnose multiple sclerosis, about 50 of them used Savitex in December 2011. The Pharmacy Company that sell Savitex state that the risk for drug dependence is lower for Savitex than the morphine based alternatives because the dose of THC so low that the patients shall not be "high" on it.

Famous quotes containing the words health and/or care:

I would hope that parents and grown children could be friends. When a friend confides in you that she’s going to do something that you think is most inappropriate, foolhardy or even dangerous, wouldn’t you as a friend say so—in a calm, supportive way? Yet I have to be so careful what I say to my children. I have to walk on eggs to be sure I’m not hurting their feelings or interfering with their lives.
—Anonymous Parent of Adult Children. Ourselves and Our Children, by Boston Women’s Health Book Collective, ch. 5 (1978)

The American grips himself, at the very sources of his consciousness, in a grip of care: and then, to so much of the rest of life, is indifferent. Whereas, the European hasn’t got so much care in him, so he cares much more for life and living.
    —D.H. (David Herbert)
