Alternatives To Plastic Straws
Plastic straws aren't recyclable and end up in landfills or the ocean. It is estimated over 60 million straws are consumed per day around the world. There are, however, alternatives to disposable plastic straws:
- Paper straws
- Bamboo straws
- Bioplastic straws
- Glass straws
- Stainless steel straws
There are campaigns in the United Kingdom (Straw Wars) and United States (The 1:1 Movement) which encourage alternatives to plastic straws and/or to not ask for straws when ordering drinks.

Famous quotes containing the words alternatives to, alternatives and/or plastic:
“The literal alternatives to [abortion] are suicide, motherhood, and, some would add, madness. Consequently, there is some confusion, discomfort, and cynicism greeting efforts to “find” or “emphasize” or “identify” alternatives to abortion.”
—Connie J. Downey (b. 1934)
“The last alternatives they face
Of face, without the life to save,
Being from all salvation weaned
A stag charged both at heel and head:
Who would come back is turned a fiend
Instructed by the fiery dead.”
—Allen Tate (1899–1979)
“On leaf of palm, on sedge-wrought roll;
On plastic clay and leathern scroll,
Man wrote his thoughts; the ages passed,
And lo! the Press was found at last!”
—John Greenleaf Whittier (1807–1892)
