Arts and Culture
The downtown area contains such important cultural landmarks as the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, Tampa Theatre, Tampa Museum of Art, Jobsite Theater and the Henry B. Plant Museum on the University of Tampa campus. The UT campus itself has been recognized as a local "wonder" while the newly-completed Museum of Art deemed a work of art itself. Zack Street in the northern half of downtown is in the works to become an art district, called "Avenue of the Arts."

Famous quotes containing the words arts and, arts and/or culture:
“A man must be clothed with society, or we shall feel a certain bareness and poverty, as of a displaced and unfurnished member. He is to be dressed in arts and institutions, as well as in body garments. Now and then a man exquisitely made can live alone, and must; but coop up most men and you undo them.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“One man cannot practice many arts with success.”
—Plato (c. 427347 B.C.)
“The problem of culture is seldom grasped correctly. The goal of a culture is not the greatest possible happiness of a people, nor is it the unhindered development of all their talents; instead, culture shows itself in the correct proportion of these developments. Its aim points beyond earthly happiness: the production of great works is the aim of culture.”
—Friedrich Nietzsche (18441900)
