Steenland worked as a senior partner at the Washington, D.C., law firm of Verner, Liipfert, Bernhard, McPherson, and Hand (now part of Piper Rudnick, Washington, D.C.) and handled matters related to transportation, corporate law, telecommunications, government relations, and insurance.
