2012 Congressional Election
In January 2012, U.S. Congressman Wally Herger announced that he was retiring and that "Senator LaMalfa is running for Congress, and will do so with the endorsement of Congressman Herger." LaMalfa won the primary election in June 2012 with 38% of the vote in an eight person race and winning 10 out of the district's 11 counties. On November 6, 2012, LaMalfa defeated Democrat Jim Reed 58%–42%.
