Doris Daou - Life

Life

Daou's family fled war-ravaged Lebanon when she was a child, and settled in Canada. Daou was educated at the Université de Montréal in Quebec, where she studied the atmospheric parameters of variable stars. She then moved to Baltimore, Maryland, in the United States, where she spent nine years working on the Hubble Space Telescope. She then transferred to the team preparing to launch the Spitzer Space Telescope, where she ultimately wound up working in education and public outreach.

Today Daou is best known as an expert in grant proposals and as the creator and producer of the Ask an Astronomer video podcast, though she continues to publish in science journals.

Famous quotes containing the word life:

One should not confuse the craving for life with endorsement of it.
    Elias Canetti (b. 1905)

The Virgin filled so enormous a space in the life and thought of the time that one stands now helpless before the mass of testimony to her direct action and constant presence in every moment and form of the illusion which men thought they thought their existence.
    Henry Brooks Adams (1838–1918)

The remarkable thing is that it is the crowded life that is most easily remembered. A life full of turns, achievements, disappointments, surprises, and crises is a life full of landmarks. The empty life has even its few details blurred, and cannot be remembered with certainty.
    Eric Hoffer (1902–1983)
