Doom & Sons was a former attraction in the Talbot Street area of Alton Towers theme park, Staffordshire, England. The attraction was opened in 1981 and then it was closed in 1991 in time for the building's transformation into Toyland Tours. It was Alton Towers's first attempt at a haunted house style attraction and was a walk-through attraction featuring interactive effects (such as skeletons in cupboards) and sensory effects (such as spongy floors).
The following year, the Haunted House opened, now known as Duel. It was a much more high tech dark ride, designed by John Wardley, in which riders travel through the house in cars with varying speed. This may have caused Doom & Sons to shut down.
Famous quotes containing the words doom and/or sons:
“More Safe, and much more modest tis, to say
God woud not leave Mankind without a way:
And that the Scriptures, though not every where
Free from Corruption, or intire, or clear,
Are uncorrupt, sufficient, clear, intire,
In all things which our needfull Faith require.
If others in the same Glass better see
Tis for Themselves they look, but not for me:
For MY Salvation must its Doom receive
Not from what OTHERS, but what I believe.”
—John Dryden (16311700)
“Until you have a son of your own . . . you will never know the joy, the love beyond feeling that resonates in the heart of a father as he looks upon his son. You will never know the sense of honor that makes a man want to be more than he is and to pass something good and hopeful into the hands of his son. And you will never know the heartbreak of the fathers who are haunted by the personal demons that keep them from being the men they want their sons to be.”
—Kent Nerburn (20th century)
