Don't Take IT Personal (Just One of Dem Days)

"Don't Take It Personal (Just One of Dem Days)" is a song by American R&B singer Monica. It was written by producer Dallas Austin, Willie James Baker, Daryl Simmons, Marlon Williams and rappers LL Cool J and Chuck D for her debut studio album, Miss Thang (1995), incorporating samples of both LL Cool J's 1993 record "Back Seat (Of My Jeep)" and Public Enemy's 1987 song "Bring the Noise," also featuring elements from "You're Getting a Little too Smart" by The Detroit Emeralds.

The song was released as the album's lead single in the United States in early 1995, and eventually certified platinum by the RIAA. It spent two weeks at number-one on the U.S. Billboard Hot R&B Songs chart, and peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100, also reaching the top ten of the singles charts in Australia and New Zealand. "Don't Take It Personal (Just One of Dem Days)," alongside follow-up single "Before You Walk Out of My Life," would make the singer the youngest recording artist to have two consecutive number-one hits on the Billboard R&B chart at the age of fourteen.

An accompanying music video for the single, shot in black-and-white, was directed by Rich Murray and released in June 1995.

Famous quotes containing the words personal and/or dem:

I believe that the highest virtue is to be happy, living in the greatest truth, not submitting to the falsehood of these personal times.
    —D.H. (David Herbert)

I had crossed de line of which I had so long been dreaming. I was free; but dere was no one to welcome me to de land of freedom. I was a stranger in a strange land, and my home after all was down in de old cabin quarter, wid de ole folks, and my brudders and sisters. But to dis solemn resolution I came; I was free, and dey should be free also; I would make a home for dem in de North, and de Lord helping me, I would bring dem all dere.
    Harriet Tubman (c. 1820–1913)
