Tung-ting, also known as Dongding, is an Oolong tea from Taiwan. The original leaves were taken from a much older tea plant in China's Wuyi Mountains in Fujian Province. The name "Dongding" means "Frozen Summit", which is the name of the mountain in Taiwan on which the original tea plants taken from the Wuyi Mountains were planted.
For many oolong lovers, Dong Ding is THE PREMIUM Taiwanese wulong.
Fact is Dong Ding quality varies. The original Dong Ding is from Luku region in Nantou province in Taiwan. However this area has long been used for tea cultivation. Production is now scarce and quality varies. Many Dong Ding nowadays are produced from other Nantou high mountain tea and follow the traditional Dong Ding production method. Dong Ding is typically medium roasted (about 30%).
Oolong is reputed to help digestion. It is very popular amongst those who are seeking better health and body shape.
Dong Ding is still hand picked primarily. It is either charcoal or machine roasted.
Famous quotes containing the words dong and/or tea:
“With hym ther was a plowman, was his brother,
That hadde ylad of dong ful many a fother.”
—Geoffrey Chaucer (1340?1400)
“Id take the bus downtown with my mother, and the big thing was to sit at the counter and get an orange drink and a tuna sandwich on toast. I thought I was living large!... When I was at the Ritz with the publisher a few months ago, I did think, Oh my God, Im in the Ritz tearoom. ... The person who was so happy to sit at the Woolworths counter is now sitting at the Ritz, listening to the harp, and wondering what tea to order.... [ellipsis in source] Am I awake?”
—Connie Porter (b. 1959)
