Don Spencer - Early Life

Early Life

Spencer was born and raised in Tamworth, New South Wales. He had a love of hockey as a teenager and played in the Australian championships. He left Australia at age seventeen and travelled to Africa where he trained with the Kenyan Olympic hockey team in his twenties. It was a chance meeting with Roger Whittaker in Nairobi that inspired Spencer to buy a guitar and start a career as a singer/songwriter.

Famous quotes containing the words early and/or life:

...to many a mother’s heart has come the disappointment of a loss of power, a limitation of influence when early manhood takes the boy from the home, or when even before that time, in school, or where he touches the great world and begins to be bewildered with its controversies, trade and economics and politics make their imprint even while his lips are dewy with his mother’s kiss.
    J. Ellen Foster (1840–1910)

... aside from the financial aspect, [there] is more: the life of my work. I feel that is all I came into the world for, and have failed dismally if it is not a success.
    Mary E. Wilkins Freeman (1852–1930)
