Each Doctor inherits the position, title, and the collective memories & magical abilities of all of their predecessors when the previous one dies, making each new Doctor more powerful than the last. Famous quotes containing the words fictional, character and/or biographies:

One of the proud joys of the man of letters—if that man of letters is an artist—is to feel within himself the power to immortalize at will anything he chooses to immortalize. Insignificant though he may be, he is conscious of possessing a creative divinity. God creates lives; the man of imagination creates fictional lives which may make a profound and as it were more living impression on the world’s memory.
    Edmond De Goncourt (1822–1896)

An interesting play cannot in the nature of things mean anything but a play in which problems of conduct and character of personal importance to the audience are raised and suggestively discussed.
    George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950)

‘Tis the gift to be simple ‘tis the gift to be free
‘Tis the gift to come down where you ought to be
And when we find ourselves in the place just right
‘Twill be in the valley of love and delight.
—Unknown. ‘Tis the Gift to Be Simple.
