DJ Big Band

A DJ big band is a large musical ensemble made of a large number of DJ's. Some of them will play the rhythm, others the melody.

The first and still only known DJ big band is DJ Grazzhoppa's DJ big band formed in 2003. In the first version of that band, they were 6 DJs and a saxophonist (Fabrizio Cassol), a production of arts centre nOna (from Mechelen, Belgium) in co-operation with arts centres Vooruit (Ghent, Belgium) and Villanella (Antwerp, Belgium).

On January 27, 2005, they played La Monnaie, Brussels with 12 DJs plus Fabrizio Cassol and singer Monique Harcum, former member of Zap Mama and wife of Brugge-born DJ Grazzhoppa. The project is supported by Vizual Vectorz which takes care of the visual aspect of the show. Arts centre nOna prepared an international tour of DJ Grazzhoppa's DJ Big Band & Vizual Vectorz including shows at the Roskilde Festival (Denmark) and Nazomerfestival (Netherlands).

Famous quotes containing the words big and/or band:

As a remedy to life in society I would suggest the big city. Nowadays, it is the only desert within our means.
    Albert Camus (1913–1960)

What passes for identity in America is a series of myths about one’s heroic ancestors. It’s astounding to me, for example, that so many people really seem to believe that the country was founded by a band of heroes who wanted to be free. That happens not to be true. What happened was that some people left Europe because they couldn’t stay there any longer and had to go someplace else to make it. They were hungry, they were poor, they were convicts.
    James Baldwin (1924–1987)
