Disasterpieces was generally well received by critics. Kirk Miller of Rolling Stone complimented the multitude of camera angles and quick edits, writing that they helped to " advantage of the masked metal giants' sprawling live show". Ottawa XPress reviewer Mitch Joel wrote that the sound was "mixed perfectly ... songs like 'People = Shit', 'Spit It Out' and 'Surfacing' rocket". Overall, he concluded, "Disasterpieces is an awesome and all-embracing package."

Disasterpieces peaked at number 3 in the Billboard Top Music Videos chart and rose to number 1 in Finland. On January 6, 2003 the RIAA certified Disasterpieces platinum in the United States, and it was declared quadruple platinum on November 18, 2005.

It was honored with a 2002 Metal Edge Readers' Choice Award for DVD/Home Video of the Year.

Famous quotes containing the word reception:

Aesthetic emotion puts man in a state favorable to the reception of erotic emotion.... Art is the accomplice of love. Take love away and there is no longer art.
    Rémy De Gourmont (1858–1915)

To the United States the Third World often takes the form of a black woman who has been made pregnant in a moment of passion and who shows up one day in the reception room on the forty-ninth floor threatening to make a scene. The lawyers pay the woman off; sometimes uniformed guards accompany her to the elevators.
    Lewis H. Lapham (b. 1935)

Satire is a sort of glass, wherein beholders do generally discover everybody’s face but their own; which is the chief reason for that kind of reception it meets in the world, and that so very few are offended with it.
    Jonathan Swift (1667–1745)
