Dio Brando (ディオ・ブランドー, Dio Burandō?, written as "DIO" in Stardust Crusaders) is a fictional character created by Hirohiko Araki as the villain of part one, Phantom Blood, of the manga series JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, which debuted in 1987. He is the primary antagonist of Parts 1 and 3, but is also considered to be the main villain of the entire series because of his far-reaching influence. Dio's son, Giorno Giovana, is the protagonist of Part 5.
Dio's full name is a homage to both actor Marlon Brando and heavy metal icon Ronnie James Dio.
