Early Life

Dina Ruiz was born in Castro Valley, a community within the East Bay area of northern California. Her father, who was adopted by a Puerto Rican American/Portuguese American family named Ruiz, was of Native Hawaiian, African American, and Japanese American descent; and her mother is of Irish, English, and German descent. Ruiz, who graduated from Mission San Jose High School in Fremont, California, anchored Newsline for Ohlone College Television, then majored in Radio/TV at San Francisco State University.
