Dick, Kerr's Ladies F.C. were one of the most famous early (pre-1970's) women's association football teams. The team was founded in Preston, Lancashire, England as a works' team for a company, Dick, Kerr & Co., owned by two Scots: W.B. Dick and John Kerr. The women joined the company in 1914 to help produce ammunition for the First World War.

Famous quotes containing the word ladies:
“Fine knacks for ladies, cheap, choice, brave and new,
Good pennyworths,but money cannot move:
I keep a fair but for the Fair to view,
A beggar may be liberal of love.
Though all my wares be trash, the heart is true,”
—Unknown. Fine Knacks for Ladies (l. 78)
