Diane Greene - Biography

Biography

Born in Rochester, New York, Greene received her bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in 1976 from the University of Vermont, and earned a Master's Degree in Naval Architecture from MIT in 1978. In 1988 she earned a second Master's Degree in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley.

Greene met her husband Mendel Rosenblum while at Berkeley. In 1998, Greene, Rosenblum, Scott Devine, Edward Wang and Edouard Bugnion founded VMware.

On July 8, 2008, Greene was unexpectedly fired as president and CEO by the VMware Board of Directors and replaced by Paul Maritz, a retired 14-year Microsoft veteran.

Since August 2006, Greene has been on the board of directors of Intuit. On January 12, 2012, Greene was also named to Google's board of directors.
