Diacetylene - Occurrence

Occurrence

Diacetylene has been identified in the atmosphere of Titan and in the protoplanetary nebula CRL 618 by its characteristic vibrational modes. The molecule is most likely to have formed in Titan's atmosphere by a reaction between acetylene and the ethynyl radical C2H, which is produced when acetylene undergoes photolysis. This radical can in turn attack the triple bond in acetylene and react efficiently even at cold temperatures. Diacetylene has also been found on the Moon.

Famous quotes containing the word occurrence:

One is absolutely sickened, not by the crimes that the wicked have committed, but by the punishments that the good have inflicted; and a community is infinitely more brutalised by the habitual employment of punishment than it is by the occasional occurrence of crime.
    Oscar Wilde (1854–1900)
