DeVos Place Convention Center

DeVos Place Convention Center, erected in 2003 on the Grand River in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA, is a multi-purpose convention center. It is named for Richard DeVos, who donated $20 million towards its construction.

The Convention Center features a 162,000-square-foot (15,100 m2), column free exhibit hall, 40,000-square-foot (3,700 m2) ballroom and 26 individual meeting rooms (32,000 square feet). Twelve spacious loading docks (with a wash bay and marshalling area), allow for easy access into the exhibit hall.

The convention center is owned by the Grand Rapids-Kent County Convention/Arena Authority and managed by SMG.

DeVos Place is part of a vibrant downtown entertainment district featuring over 50 dining establishments, nightclubs, four museums and the 12,000 seat Van Andel Arena, all within walking distance.

Famous quotes containing the words place, convention and/or center:

The lakes are something which you are unprepared for; they lie up so high, exposed to the light, and the forest is diminished to a fine fringe on their edges, with here and there a blue mountain, like amethyst jewels set around some jewel of the first water,—so anterior, so superior, to all the changes that are to take place on their shores, even now civil and refined, and fair as they can ever be.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Mankind owes to the child the best it has to give.
—United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, 1989.

It is written in the Book of Usable Minutes
That all things have their center in their dying....
    John Ashbery (b. 1927)
