The word desi is a slang term for the people, cultures, and products of the Indian subcontinent or South Asia and, increasingly, to the people, cultures, and products of their diaspora. Desi countries include India, Pakistan,Bangladesh and sometimes Nepal and the Maldives. There are large Desi populations in the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, South Africa, Malaysia, Mauritius, Singapore, Guyana, Fiji, Australia, Trinidad and Tobago, the Middle East and other countries and regions.
