Desert Sands Unified School District

The Desert Sands Unified School District (DSUSD) is a public school district with main offices located in La Quinta, California. The district was founded in 1964 after the California department of education consolidated all of Indio public schools at the time. DSUSD serves the following communities:

  • Indio (The part of the city south of Avenue 48 belongs to Coachella Valley Unified School District).
  • La Quinta (The part of the city east of Jefferson Street belongs to CVUSD).
  • Palm Desert (The part of the city north of Frank Sinatra Drive belongs to Palm Springs Unified School District).
  • Indian Wells (has only one school in city limits).
  • Bermuda Dunes (unincorporated, but its zip code has the majority of students' residence).
  • Rancho Mirage (The part of the city west of Bob Hope Drive belongs to PSUSD).

The DSUSD administration office based in a former elementary school (1926-1955), was moved from Indio to La Quinta in 1996.

Famous quotes containing the words desert, sands, unified, school and/or district:

    What e’er you are
    That in this desert inaccessible,
Under the shade of melancholy boughs,
Lose and neglect the creeping hours of time.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

Perchance the time will come when we shall not be content to go back and forth upon a raft to some huge Homeric or Shakespearean Indiaman that lies upon the reef, but build a bark out of that wreck and others that are buried in the sands of this desolate island, and such new timber as may be required, in which to sail away to whole new worlds of light and life, where our friends are.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

The man who knows governments most completely is he who troubles himself least about a definition which shall give their essence. Enjoying an intimate acquaintance with all their particularities in turn, he would naturally regard an abstract conception in which these were unified as a thing more misleading than enlightening.
    William James (1842–1910)

And so they have left us feeling tired and old.
They never cared for school anyway.
And they have left us with the things pinned on the bulletin board.
And the night, the endless, muggy night that is invading our school.
    John Ashbery (b. 1927)

Most works of art, like most wines, ought to be consumed in the district of their fabrication.
    Rebecca West (1892–1983)
