History
Derby College of Higher Education split from Derby College of Further Education (FE) during the 1960s. Derby FE was primarily targeted at part-time students from engineering companies such as Rolls Royce and British Rail. This provision continued through to the 1980s until a major restructuring of industry and the apprenticeship system. The FE colleges then took on different types of students and evolved in to new areas.
In 1989 Derbyshire County Council was responsible for education, and formed two colleges, Wilmorton and Mackworth to serve different parts of the city.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“The history of progress is written in the blood of men and women who have dared to espouse an unpopular cause, as, for instance, the black mans right to his body, or womans right to her soul.”
—Emma Goldman (18691940)
“Revolutions are the periods of history when individuals count most.”
—Norman Mailer (b. 1923)
“In nature, all is useful, all is beautiful. It is therefore beautiful, because it is alive, moving, reproductive; it is therefore useful, because it is symmetrical and fair. Beauty will not come at the call of a legislature, nor will it repeat in England or America its history in Greece. It will come, as always, unannounced, and spring up between the feet of brave and earnest men.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
