Other Ways To Produce Depolarized Light

In many applications it is possible to use a quarter-wave plate to produce circularly polarized light, but this is only possible for light of a limited range of wavelengths which is linearly polarized to start with. It is also possible to use a rotating half-wave plate to produce polarization which is periodic in time, and therefore effectively scrambled for sufficiently slow responses. Other methods have been demonstrated, such as the use of Faraday rotators and liquid crystals. It is also possible to depolarize light using fiber optics.

Famous quotes containing the words ways, produce and/or light:

Nothing in the nature around us is evil. This needs to be repeated since one of the human ways of talking oneself into inhuman acts is to cite the supposed cruelty of nature.
    John Berger (b. 1926)

Exercise and application produce order in our affairs, health of body, cheerfulness of mind, and these make us precious to our friends.
    Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826)

Almost like a god looking at her terribly out of the everlasting dark, she had felt the eyes of that horse; great glowing, fearsome eyes, arched with a question, and containing a white blade of light like a threat. What was his non-human question, and his uncanny threat? She didn’t know. He was some splendid demon, and she must worship him.
