The Defence Portfolio

Main article: Minister of National Defence (Canada)

The Canadian Forces are a distinct and separate entity from the Department of National Defence. The Minister of National Defence is responsible for the entire Defence Portfolio comprising several organisations, including the Canadian Forces, the Communications Security Establishment, Defence Research and Development Canada, and the Department of National Defence. The Department is not responsible for all of these organisations itself, but rather exists to support the minister in carrying out all of his duties within the Defence Portfolio.

Famous quotes containing the word defence:

What cannot stand must fall; and the measure of our sincerity and therefore of the respect of men, is the amount of health and wealth we will hazard in the defence of our right. An old farmer, my neighbor across the fence, when I ask him if he is not going to town-meeting, says: “No, ‘t is no use balloting, for it will not stay; but what you do with the gun will stay so.”
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
