In 2012, reports show that by 2035 23% of the population will be above 65, and that the average age will be 42.2 years, an increase from the current 39.7 years. This figure would place the UK as the fifth lowest average population age in the EU, despite currently being one of the fastest aging populations in the world. The change into being one of the youngest populations in Europe Is largely based on high immigration levels and the recent baby boom.
