“It is old age, rather than death, that is to be contrasted with life. Old age is lifes parody, whereas death transforms life into a destiny: in a way it preserves it by giving it the absolute dimension. ... Death does away with time.”

“Old age begins in the nursery, and before the young American is put into jacket and trowsers, he says, I want something which I never saw before and I wish I was not I.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“From the age of fifteen, dogma has been the fundamental principle of my religion: I know no other religion; I cannot enter into the idea of any other sort of religion; religion, as a mere sentiment, is to me a dream and a mockery.”
—Cardinal John Henry Newman (18011890)
