Delta Southern Railroad

The Delta Southern Railroad Company (reporting mark DSRR) is a Class III short-line railroad headquartered in Tallulah, Louisiana.

DSRR operates three disconnected lines, all of which interchange with Union Pacific:

  • A 30 mile line from McGehee, Arkansas, to Lake Village, Arkansas
  • A 15 mile line from Monroe, Louisiana, to Sterlington, Louisiana
  • A line from McGehee to Warren, Arkansas (length unknown) (this line also interchanges with Kansas City Southern)

A 30 mile segment south of Lake Village was authorized for abandonment in 2005; the majority of the line (located in Arkansas) was subsequently sold to another party for continued rail service, and the remaining portion (located in Louisiana) is in negotiations for sale.

The lines were initially owned by a predecessor of Union Pacific. The McGehee line was sold to DSRR in 1991; the Sterlington line is currently leased from UP.

Famous quotes containing the words southern and/or railroad:

Archaeologists have uncovered six-thousand-year-old clay tablets from southern Babylonia that describe in great detail how the adults of that community found the younger generation to be insolent and disobedient.

Though the railroad and the telegraph have been established on the shores of Maine, the Indian still looks out from her interior mountains over all these to the sea.
