Libel Action
On 5 March 2012, the natural father of Baby P was awarded £75,000 in damages after The People wrongly stated in its 19 September 2010 edition that he was a convicted sex offender. Lawyers for the man, known only as "KC", said that the publishers of The People were guilty of "one of the gravest libels imaginable". Publishers MGN had previously apologised and offered to pay damages.

Famous quotes containing the words libel and/or action:
“Nor do they trust their tongue alone,
But speak a language of their own;
Can read a nod, a shrug, a look,
Far better than a printed book;
Convey a libel in a frown,
And wink a reputation down.”
—Jonathan Swift (16671745)
“The philosophy of action for action, power for the sake of power, had become an established orthodoxy. Thou has conquered, O go-getting Babbitt.”
—Aldous Huxley (18941963)
