According to Jainism, there are 17 different types of death:

- Antahsalya-marana

- Bala-marana or Akama marana
- Pandita-marana or Sakama marana
- Balpandita-marana
- Chadmastha-marana

- Vaihayasa-marana
- Guddhapristha-marana
- Bhaktapratyakhyana-marana
- Inginta-marana
- Padopagamana-marana
