    Woodrow Wilson (1856–1924)

And whoever walks a furlong without sympathy walks to his own funeral drest in his shroud.
    Walt Whitman (1819–1892)

The masochist: “I send my tormentor hurrying hither and thither in the service of my suffering and desire.”
    Mason Cooley (b. 1927)
