DBAG Class 101 - Advertisement On The Locomotives

Advertisement On The Locomotives

Due to its very smooth body design, and its itinerary across all of Germany, the class 101 locomotives are ideal to be used as traveling advertisement billboards. Starting as early as May 1998, the very first locomotive of the series, 101 001, featured an advertisement for the musical "Starlight Express", and this campaign was followed by similar efforts from firms such as Bayer, CMA, and the German state of Baden-Württemberg. The DB also used their own locomotives to advertise their new pricing system. The adverts are printed onto heavy plastic foil, which is then glued to the body of the locomotive – there is no painting involved. Please refer to the web site Baureihe-101.de for a complete listing of all advertisements on each class 101 unit.

The flower-fed buffaloes of the spring
In the days of long ago,
    Ranged where the locomotives sing
And the prairie flowers lie low:—
