Dawson College Shooting

The Dawson College shooting occurred on September 13, 2006 at Dawson College, a CEGEP located in Westmount near downtown Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The perpetrator, Kimveer Gill, began shooting outside the de Maisonneuve Boulevard entrance to the school, and moved towards the atrium by the cafeteria on the main floor. One victim died at the scene, while another 19 were injured, eight of whom were listed in critical condition, with six requiring surgery. The shooter later committed suicide by shooting himself in the head, after being shot in the arm by a police officer.

Victims were treated at the Montreal General Hospital and other Montreal-area hospitals. It is the third fatal school shooting in Montreal, after the École Polytechnique massacre in 1989 and the Valery Fabrikant shooting spree at Concordia University in 1992.

Famous quotes containing the words college and/or shooting:

[B]y going to the College [William and Mary] I shall get a more universal Acquaintance, which may hereafter be serviceable to me; and I suppose I can pursue my Studies in the Greek and Latin as well there as here, and likewise learn something of the Mathematics.
    Thomas Jefferson (1743–1826)

After a shooting spree, they always want to take the guns away from the people who didn’t do it. I sure as hell wouldn’t want to live in a society where the only people allowed guns are the police and the military.
    William Burroughs (b. 1914)
