In the film adaption, the voyage visits the same locations, but the Dark Island is visited after the Island of the Star, and is revealed to be the source of a great darkness – the nature of which is never specified – that will eventually sweep across Narnia unless it is stopped by the seven enchanted swords of the seven lords. Other differences include Eustace remaining in dragon form for a longer period, helping to pull the ship and confront monsters when his aid is required.
