Personal Life
Ritz was raised in Borough Park, Brooklyn and attended graduate school at SUNY Buffalo, where he studied with the literary critic Leslie Fiedler. As a youth, Ritz accompanied his father, a hat salesman, to shops in the black community, where he was immersed in the African American culture at an early age and became enamored with jazz and blues. Amongst his multi-colored tattoos, he wears one that reads "R&B" on his right shoulder and another that reads "Jazz" on his left. Born Jewish, and the husband and father of Jewish women, Ritz converted to Christianity in 2004 and attends an African-American Pentecostal church.
