He is the son of Brenda Chambers, who also competed in track and field in the 400 m hurdles event. He graduated from Denver East High School in Colorado, in 2000. He currently lives and trains in Orlando, Florida with coach Brooks Johnson. He graduated from Howard University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing. David Oliver supports English team Arsenal Football Club. He is married and has a child.
