Retirement
On December 7, 2009 McCarty officially retired, and had already accepted a job as color analyst for Versus. A fifteen season veteran and fan favorite in Detroit, McCarty thanked the Red Wings and Flames organizations as well as the fans for helping him to realize his dreams.
