Due to the recent development of the shopping center in Hillsdale, the grocery store in Darmstadt has closed. Currently, all but three of the lots in the Village Market area are for lease, including the old grocery store and old antique mall. Businesses that continue to flourish are the post office, the barber shop, and Gardo's Pizza. The businesses in Hillsdale are (a) right next to the Vanderburgh 4-H Fairgrounds and Campgrounds, (b) right on U.S. 41 between Evansville and I-64, and (c) all "big name" companies that have a competitive advantage.
