The World

Dark Rising has taken us all over the world, two worlds in fact, but has had several key locations. Filmed primarily in Northern Ontario the crew of Dark Rising is always ready to travel.

Dark Rising: Bring Your Battle Axe takes place, simply, in the woods. Just outside of Summer's undisclosed home town is where Jason first assembles his friends for a camping trip in a feeble attempt to reunite with ex-fiancee, now Lesbian, Jasmine. The film itself was shot, in large, at the home of Executive Producer Mihkel Harilaid in Claremont, Ontario.

Dark Rising: The Savage Tales of Summer Vale and Dark Rising: Summer Strikes Back also both take place within this town. Anyone from the area though might notice some similarities between this town and North Bay, a city in Northern Ontario.

Dark Rising: Warrior of Worlds however has swayed the crew to branch out, featuring numerous scenes set and shot in beautiful Paris, France. The series is still in production and only preliminary shooting has taken place but several future locations include Cuba, Thailand, and a return to Paris. The bulk of the series has been set in Nickel City though, played by Sudbury, Ontario.

All of these locations have one things in common, they serve as the perfect backdrop to a global war being waged between Humans and Demons. Scenery aside it should be kept in mind that, within the worlds of Dark Rising there is a battle being fought on all fronts. The Demons, separated from our Earth and given their own long ago, forever torment Humanity and retreat to the solace of the shadows. Their single greatest advantage is that mankind doesn't even know they exist. Some would even go so far as to argue their non-existence, lending an unknowing hand to the Demon war effort.

Using the world as a setting, "as is", allows Dark Rising to maintain a great sense of realism all while carrying out fantastic supernatural storylines. Anything unnatural is explained with magic and anything unseen by the populous is because of the work of a series of Emitters, magical arrays which prevent anything supernatural from being seen by anyone who hasn't been awakened.

The world of Dark Rising is real and unforgiving, people live and die here. It is only by ingenuity and perseverance that one can hope to survive.
